Helping out...

Last week OHEGG members pitched in to beautify the campus by clearing an area around the outdoor classroom. The kids really worked hard and gathered a huge pile of brush and undesirable plants. It was fun to watch them team up to handle the bigger branches. Great job!

Planting!

This week we shoveled dirt from a pile into the beds, raked it and started planting. We planted vegetables and native plants, both plants and seeds. We also didn't forget to write about it in our journals. Now, come on rain!!

Getting to Work

Last week we enjoyed the beautiful weather by working outside for the first time. The kids were divided into groups and rotated through three stations. One group distributed wildflower seeds in one area, while another group picked up rocks to clear the garden area. Another group assisted Mr. Cumings with planning the layout of the gardens. Along the way we found ladybugs and grub worms and carefully recorded our observations in our gardening journal.

Welcome to the OHEGG Blog!

What is OHEGG, you ask? We're the Oak Hill Elementary Gardening Group! This is a brand new after school club this year at OHE. We'll try to update this blog as often as possible with photos and updates on the progress of our gardens. Check back often!
